Apple Developer Account: Overview & Setup

All apps in the Apple App Store are submitted through Apple Developer accounts. In order to publish your app for iOS devices, you will need to sign up for an Apple Developer account. Apple requires each business to have their own account. We’ve also created an easy-to-follow PDF guide to help you set up your Apple Developer account, which you can download at the bottom of this article.

Below is a step-by-step guide for you to run through with the client. If you run into any issues, we recommend contacting Apple support directly at 0800 048 0408 (UK) or CodeSurf Solutions 0330 520 1480.

Step 1: Create your ID

1. Go to https://developer.apple.com/programs/enroll.

2. You will then be asked to enter or create a new Apple ID.

We recommend you create a new Apple ID that reflects your business name. This way, your personal ID is separate from their business account.

Step 2: Developer Agreement

1. On the next screen, you will be prompted to read and verify that you have read Apple’s Developer Agreement.

2. Once you have done so, continue to the next screen.

Step 3: Choosing an Entity Type

Here, you will be prompted to select an Entity Type. There are three options: Individual, Organisation or Government Organisation.

The entity type is what Apple uses to display as your Developer Name. For example, as an Individual, your Developer Name will be your full name.  As an Organisation, your Developer Name will be your Business’s name

We highly recommend that you register as an Organisation as this will make the process easier with the publication process. Apple has emphasised in Item 4.2.6 of the Developer Agreement that the App Name and Developer Name must match for your application to be approved. *

Step 4: Enrol as an Organisation
You will need an Apple ID as well as the following to get started

A D-U-N-S® Number: Click on these links to register and learn more:

Legal Entity Status

  • Your organisation must be a legal entity so that it can be entered into contracts with Apple. Apple does not accept DBAs, fictitious businesses, trade names, or branches.

Legal Binding Authority

  • As the person enrolling your organisation in Apple’s Developer Program, you must have the legal authority to bind your organisation to legal agreements. So, you must be the organisation’s owner/founder, executive team member, senior project lead, or have legal authority granted to you by a senior employee.

Step 5: Contact Information
After you select your entity type, Apple will want you to enter and confirm your contact information. Please ensure this is accurate.

Step 6: Payment & Confirmation
After entering payment information, Apple will ask you to complete and confirm your purchase. Please tick the Automatic Renewal checkbox, as this will ensure that your apps remain available and that you maintain access to membership benefits.

Step 7: Email Confirmation
1. You will receive an email confirmation of your order with a link to verify your email address. Follow the instructions (click the link) to confirm your developer account.

2. All done now, you've taken the first step in getting the app published to iOS

Step 8: Team Members

Once the account is set up, please add Minti Nagi (mintinagi10@icloud.com) as a Team member with the role of Admin to App Store Connect and your Apple Developer account. Minti deals solely with the publication of our CodeSurf Solutions' apps on the native app stores.
